Abita Andygator Helles Doppelbock $4.99/22 ounce bottle
Origin: Louisiana.
Style: Doppelbock.
Alcohol Content: 8.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B-.
Brewery notes: "Andygator, a creature of the swamp, is a unique high-gravity brew made with pale malt, German lager yeast, and German Perle hops. Unlike other high-gravity brews, Andygator is fermented to a dry finish with a slightly sweet flavor and subtle fruit aroma. Reaching an alcohol strength of 8% by volume, it is a Helles Dopplebock. You might find it goes well with fried foods. It pairs well with just about anything made with crawfish. Some like it with a robust sandwich! Andygator also is a good aperitif and easily pairs with gorgonzola and creamy blue cheeses. 25 IBU's."
Aiko Strong $2.99/500 ml. bottle
Origin: Lithuania.
Style: Euro Strong Lager.
Alcohol Content: 9.5%.
Beer Advocate Rating: C+.
Importer notes: "Pours a nice clear amber color with a hint of orange and little white head. Smell of malt and barley. On the tongue and in the mouth, the beer is crisp and refreshing. There is a bit of fruitiness in the flavor. A mild herbal bitterness helps balance some of the sweetness, but still quite sweet and sticky. Alcohol is very well concealed. A good amount of malts and barley give the beer a sweet taste that does an excellent job of masking the alcohol. Naturally fermented."

Brooklyn Brewery Local 1 $9.99/750 ml. bottle
Origin: New York.
Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale.
Alcohol Content: 9.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
Brewery notes: "While we've never come right out and said that Brooklyn Local 1 is our version of the Belgian Saison, we're certainly not going to argue with America's cocktail expert David Wondrich. And certainly not while he's saying things like "(Local 1) could be the most elegant beer ever made." In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth."
Brooklyn Brewery Local 2 $9.99/750 ml. bottle
Origin: New York.
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
Alcohol Content: 9.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
"Styled after dark Belgian ale, this domestic craft beer from Brooklyn Brewery is made with European malts and hops, brown sugar, wildflower honey and orange zest. It is bottled in an impressively sculpted, Champagne-like cork-and-wire-cage-adorned 750 ml. bottle. Belgian-style ales are meant to savor and share. The Local 2 goes great with roasted vegetables and seasonal braised game. It’s available year-round, but this is the season that it shines the brightest. In the glass: Deep reddish mahogany color with a tan head. Aromas of caramel on buttered dark toast, honey and orange peel follow through on a round, foamy entry to a fruity yet dry, medium to full body with tangy apple skin, dried citrus and toffee notes. Finishes with a nice, grassy hop and pepper-accented fade. A rock solid food beer." - Chicago Tribune.

Chimay Cinq Cents Triple White Label Trappist Ale $11.69/750 ml.
Origin: Belgium.
Style: Tripel.
Alcohol Content: 8.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
Chimay notes: "This beer with its typical golden color, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavor, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurized." The pictured 330 ml. (11 ounce) bottle is available for $4.99.
Chimay Grand Réserve Blue Label Trappist Ale $12.99/750 ml.
Origin: Belgium.
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale.

Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
Chimay notes: "This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavor, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma, while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurized." The pictured 330 ml. (11 ounce) bottle is $4.99.
Chimay Première Red Label Trappist Ale $11.29/750 ml.
Origin: Belgium.
Style: Dubbel.
Alcohol Content: 7.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
Chimay notes: "it is noted for its coppery color which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavor qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurized." The pictured 330 ml. (11 ounce) bottle is $4.49.

Crispin Honey Crisp Artisanal Reserve Cider $6.49/22 ounce bottle
Origin: California.
Style: N/A.
Alcohol Content: 6.5%.
Beer Advocate Rating: NR.
Crispin Honey Crisp Artisanal Reserve is a small batch, hand crafted, super-premium hard apple cider smoothed with real organic honey for a rich, creamy, full-bodied crisp taste. Smooth over ice. For the discerning drinker, Honey Crisp's artisanal style is embodied in our unique Cloudy Filtration process, using racked unfiltered apple wine that leaves residual natural apple wine sediment in the bottle. Every bottle should receive a full Bottoms-Up! tilt and swirl before opening and enjoying. Naturally fermented using a premium apple juice blend, not from apple juice concentrate, with no added malt, spirit or grape alcohol. Honey Crisp is smoothed with pure organic honey, with no added sugar, colorants or sorbate or benzoate preservatives. Honey Crisp's apple juice is a fresh pressed blend of 3 to 5 different apples. We do not use the Honeycrisp apple, a very fine dessert eating apple, but in our experience and in our opinion, not a fine base for apple wine.
Dale's Pale Ale $9.99/6-pack 12 oz. cans
Origin: Colorado.
Style: American IPA.
Alcohol Content: 6.5%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B+.
From Oskar Blue's Cajun Grill & Brewery in Lyons, Colorado. Brewery notes: " Dale's Pale Ale is America's first hand-canned craft beer. It's an assertive but deftly balanced beer (somewhere between an American pale ale and an India Pale Ale) brewed with hefty amounts of European malts and American hops. It features a merengue-like head, a copper color, and a hoppy nose, thanks to a big post-boil addition of Centennial hops. To complement its hoppy first impression, Dale's also sports a rich middle of malts and hops, and a bracing finish. Dale's features 65 International Bittering Units." OMG! A great beer from a CAN!

Jason Alström (Beer Advocate co-founder) notes: "A top shelf brew, this one does it for me and then some. Pretty much sex in a bottle and the devil told me to drink it. Duvel is close to dry champagne but so much more. Between the bitterness and the sheer crispness, this beer is what I expect from the Belgian strong pale ale style." Brewery notes: "Ola Dubh (or Black Oil) is a collaboration between Harviestoun Brewery and Highland Park, Distiller of the Year. It is based on Harviestoun's award-winning Old Engine Oil. With more than a stylistic nod to the classic Imperial Porters (and Stouts) of the nineteenth century, this deliciously rich, dark beer is the first ale to be aged in malt whisky casks from a named distillery and, with traceable casks and numbered bottles, the rest with genuine provenance. Ola Dubh will initially be available in three different expressions; the initial release will be of small batches aged in casks formerly used to mature Highland Park 12 Year Old, Highland Park 16 Year Old and Highland Park 30 Year Old. Origin: Scotland.
Style: English Porter.
Alcohol Content: 7.4%.
Beer Advocate Rating: NR.
Brewery notes: "This is the first time we have brewed and oak matured a Porter, which has been imparted with great depth of flavor thanks to the addition of some roasted wheat, crystal malt and molasses (rich dark treacle). Innis and Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer $11.99/4-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: Scotland.
Style: English Pale Ale.
Alcohol Content: 6.6%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B+.
Using oak to age beer is unheard of. But, the flavors imparted by the oak barrels (previously used to mature bourbon) lend an incredible depth of taste. Think vanilla, toffee and orange aromas, with a malty, lightly oaked palate; soothing and warm in the finish.
Innis and Gunn Original Rum Cask Finish Oak Aged Beer $12.99/4-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: Scotland.
Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy.
Alcohol Content: 7.4%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B.
Brewery notes: "We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavors might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavors had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious! Surprisingly light in texture, soft fruits and malt fill the palate, balanced by a lively spiciness, A mellow oak background emerges with time. Malt to the fore with the spicy notes softening leaving a pleasant lingering sweetness."

Jason Alström, Beer Advocate, comments: "Full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Smooth and creamy without a doubt, coffee and unsweetened chocolate come to mind at the first taste. Fruity twang in the middle of black currants, this twang doubles with a roasted grain flavour that is perfectly balanced. Lucky Bucket Certified Evil Ale $12.49/4-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: Nebraska.
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
Alcohol Content: 9.6%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B-.
Brewery notes: "Certified Evil is the result of a 2008 collaboration project with Todd Ashman of Fifty Fifty Brewing in Truckee, California and Matt Van Wyk of Oakshire Brewing in Eugene, Oregon. Each brewer set out to create a dark Belgian strong ale with their own unique spin on the style. Since the first collaboration, six new breweries have been added to the project to invent a truly unique beer. This beer is properly named Certified Evil. The new Certified Evil recipe is more complex and interesting than the brew from 2008. This new beer blends Certified Evil aged in Cabernet barrels for one year with a younger batch of oaked aged Certified Evil. The combination makes for a vibrant yet smooth and elegant taste. The recipe also includes a wide variety of complex sugars including turbinado sugar, molasses and honey. The result is an amazingly complex beer. Truly a must try to any craft beer lover."
Maredsous 10 Triple $11.49/750 ml. bottle
Origin: Belgium.
Style: Tripel.
Alcohol Content: 10.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B+.
Beer Advocate Jason Alström notes: "Hazed sunset orange color. Dry grainy and soft nutty yeast aroma. Dehydrated orange, pineapple and peach smell from the fruity nose. Obvious bitter flavors from the yeast, hops and grain. Clusters of flavors hit at once with a nutty yeast, dry veggie hop, husk astringent grain and a peppery alcohol. A bold but boisterous triple that is over the top in some aspects, astringencies bring this brew down. Other than that is it not a beer not to shy from. Put this one up against a hearty meal rather than drinking it alone." The pictured 330 ml. (11 ounce) bottle is also available for $3.49.
New Belgium Abbey Belgian Style Ale $9.99/6-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: Colorado.
Style: Dubbel.
Alcohol Content: 7.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
Brewery notes: "Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium's lineup - but it didn't start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff's first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert. IBU-20. Calories: 200."
New Belgium Belgo Belgian Style IPA $9.99/6-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: Colorado.
Style: Belgian IPA.
Alcohol Content: 7.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B+.
Brewery notes: "When we set out to brew, we use imagination and salvation to guide us - not necessarily style guidelines. It's the Belgian way. So, Ameri-Belgo and IPA both being styles, the branding begged for New Belgium whimsy to liven things up. Hmmm Belgo sounds like a Belgian disco. Hops like to party. Next thing you know, we bust out a disco-ball and brewers started groovin. Hops started hoppin. Add in an authentic Trappist yeast strain and the place brewed into a frenzy of citrus hoppy folly. IBU-60. Calories: 201."
New Belgium Lips Of Faith Cascara Quad $7.99/22 ounce bottle

Style: Quadrupel (Quad).

Beer Advocate Rating: B.
Sale. Reg. $9.99. Brewery notes: "Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it's brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness. IBU-22."
New Belgium Lips Of Faith Heavenly Feijoa Tripel $7.99/22 ounce bottle
Origin: Colorado.

Sale. Reg. $9.99. Brewery notes: "Heavenly Feijoa Tripel combines Dieu du Ciel!'s love of hibiscus flowers with New Belgium's passion for strange and worldly fruit. Feijoa, also known as pineapple guava, has a sweet, aromatic flavor, which makes the aroma of Heavenly Feijoa Tripel luscious and tropical. The beer has Belgian yeast and Nelson Sauvin hops, combining to make a sweet fruit taste, mild spicy tones and a sharp bite. Hibiscus adds a cranberry tartness and an ambrosial quality to the color."
New Belgium Rampant Imperial IPA $9.99/6-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: Colorado.
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA.
Alcohol Content: 8.5%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B+.
Brewery notes: A burly Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosiac and Calypso hops bring stonefruit, while the addition of Centennial hops nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The beer presents heavy peach tones with a profoundly bitter bite. "Imperial IPAs take hoppy beers to the next level," said New Belgium Assistant Brewmaster Grady Hull. "Rampant packs a powerful wallop but it's got the malt bill to back it up." IBU-85. Beer Advocate rated 88.
New Belgium Trippel Ale with Coriander $9.99/6-pack 12 oz.
North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout $10.99/4-pack 12 oz. bottles

Not a beer for the faint of heart, but rather barley wine lovers and chocolate fanatics."
Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale $18.99/6-pack 12 oz. bottles
Origin: California.
Style: American Strong Ale.
Alcohol Content: 7.2%.
Beer Advocate Rating: A-.
Todd Alström, Beer Advocate review: "A dark brown beer with a creamy off-white head; good retention. Aroma was incredible with a complex floral, herbal, citrus and woody nose. At first taste: creamy and smooth in the mouthfeel. Then strong mint, followed by strong hoppy/pine-y herbal flavor and juicy citrus (grapefruit!!); big hop bite. Oak anchors the big malty sweet flavors and carries thru to the dry finish with strong notes of wood. The aging added a whole other depth of complexity and smoothness to the beer."
Oskar Blues Gubna Imperial IPA $15.99/4-pack 12 oz. cans
Origin: Colorado.
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA.
Alcohol Content: 10.0%.
Beer Advocate Rating: B.
This beer goes quickly at the store. Brewery notes: "Hop Grenade in a can. Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements, this ale is made with three malts and one hop. Its light amber color and slightly spicy malt character are derived from the use of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt respectively. North American 2-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Summit hops are used exclusively in the boil for bitterness, flavor and aroma but it doesn’t end there. Post-fermentation dry hopping allows the 10% ABV monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma to join the 100 IBUs already present. This beer should greet you with a pungent citrus blast, provide a spicy yet round middle and finish with a brisk, clean bitterness."

Old Chub also gets a dash of beechwood-smoked grains imported from Bamburg, Germany, home of the world's greatest smoked beers. Old Chub takes care of our deep affections for malt. The cola-colored beer (almost black) features a tan head, a creamy, skim-milk mouthfeel, and rich, semi-sweet flavors of caramel and chocolate throughout. The addition of smoked grains gives Old Chub a delicate kiss of smoke on the finish. Here is the beer equivalent of a lightly smoked single malt scotch, or your favorite dark chocolate." Amazing, you can get this quality ale in a can!

Brewery notes: "Intense and warming, a meal in a bottle. One cannot help but appreciate Samuel Adams Double Bock's huge malt character. We use an enormous amount of malt, half a pound per bottle, to brew this intensely rich lager. Its deep brown-ruby color is all made in the kettle, no black malt is used, resulting in a rich sweetness that is free of the rough taste of burnt malt.
