We Set the Bar with Bottom Line Pricing on Spirits: It's Worth the Trip!

Frugal's liquor buyers work to get you the best price around. How do we do it? We buy in huge volumes and work on the slimmest of margins. Because we price so low, we cannot offer any further discounts on any liquors or liqueurs, regardless of quantity.

The Sidecar Cocktail

Reason: What's Old is New Again.

For anyone who is into the idea of a classic cocktail party - the kind of event where the art of the cocktail trumps showmanship, here is a simple yet stunning entry:

To make a Classic Sidecar cocktail, combine EQUAL Parts:

  1. Fine French Cognac (Frugal's has 50ml samples of Martell XO on sale for $4.99 each!).
  2. Cointreau Liqueur (Triple Sec will NOT suffice unless you like orange air freshener.)
  3. Lemon Juice (Fresh only - don't even think of the plastic lemons).

Alchemy: Place the equal parts in a cocktail shaker (available in Frugal's beer store). Add crushed ice, shake well and strain into a martini glass.

Trivia: This was the drink Mr. Grainger was making in the "It Pays to Advertise" episode of "Are You Being Served", the BBC comedy series from the 1970's and 1980's.

Prohibition Repealed! Real Absinthe is Back.

Kubler Absinthe is the first genuine Swiss absinthe to be sold in the United States since 1912. It comes from the Val-de-Travers where absinthe was invented in the late 19th century and it is produced according to its original formula.

This formula contains the notorious ingredient wormwood, which contains a chemical derivative called "thujone" which was rumoured to be both a hallucinogen and an aphrodisiac. The formula is a full 106 proof (53% alcohol).

The traditional way to consumer absinthe is with ice-cold mineral water slowly poured over a sugar cube. The addition of water turns the clear product an opaque color that is known as the "louche"

Kubler Absinthe $48.99 /1 Liter.

Jack Daniel's Introduces New Master Distiller Jeff Arnett
Picture - Sixth Master Distiller Jimmy Bedford appeared at Frugal MacDoogal in 2007, shortly before retiring.

Jeff Arnett has just been named the seventh Master Distiller for Jack Daniel's, following the retirement of Jimmy Bedford. Bedford has made frequent appearances at Frugal MacDoogal's, taking time to meet the public and autograph bottles. We expect to see Jeff Arnett soon at Frugal's.

Jack Daniel's is also introducing the fifth in the "Scenes from Lynchburg" collector bottles.

Did you know the difference between Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whisky and Bourbon? They are both made from a sour mash of corn and other grains, both distilled in a similar way, but Jack Daniel's is filtered through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. The charcoal is specially made from hand selected sugar maple trees and the filtering is a slow proprietary process. The result is a unique and mellower flavor. By law, if it's called bourbon, it cannot be filtered this way, so Jack calls it Tennessee Whisky. Jack Daniel's Scenes from Lynchburg $28.99 /750 ml. We have the new "Scene Five", as well as Scenes Two, Three and Four in stock now. Jack Daniel's Old #7 Black Label $37.99 /1.75 Liter. Jack Daniel's Single Barrel $38.99 /750 ml. We go down to Lynchburg several times each year and pick out our own "Single Barrel" that no one else has for sale. Each new barrel has it's own personality. Jack Daniel's Collector's Bottle "1981" $32.99 /750 ml. Jack Daniel's 750 ml. gift set with 2 logo rocks glasses $20.99 /750 ml. Even the packaging is classic Jack.
