Wily Jack California Chardonnay 2008

Wily Jack California Chardonnay 2008 8.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "This is a pleasing and unpretentious wine showing fresh tropical and citrus notes joined by fragrant notes of apple and baking spices. The supple palate is laden with flavors of pineapple and bright lemon zest. The warm-climate ripe fruit marries nicely with the bright acidity from cooler regions, resulting in a wine with medium acidity that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with an array of foods."

Wily Jack California Zinfandel 2007

Wily Jack California Zinfandel 2007 8.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "This is an adventurous Zinfandel showing an abundance of ripe fruit flavors. Jammy plum and blackberry flavors follow scents of ripe juicy fruit and cinnamon and nutmeg spices. Sweet vanilla and toasty flavors from the oak aging give this wine added interest and lead to a pleasing finish." Also available at the same price: Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 and Chardonnay 2008.

Puydeval Languedoc 2008

Puydeval Languedoc 2008 14.99/750 ml.
Here's another great value wine from Handpicked Selections (Dan Kravitz). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rating is 90 points! David Schildknecht's tasting notes: "Lovers of Cabernet Franc – not to mention value – do not miss this 2008 Puydeval, blended with 28% Syrah and 10% Merlot grown near Carcasonne, and conceived and executed by ambitious oenologist-negociant Jeff Carrell! Machine oil, mulberry, and incense form an intense and striking aromatic display that leads to a rich, almost fat, 14% alcohol, yet positively bright palate, where resin-, cinnamon-, walnut oil, and mint-tinged dark chocolate and mulberries hang on for a surprisingly stubborn finish marked by piquant nuttiness and well-integrated bitterness. This is archetypal Cabernet Franc in character, implausibly rich, and ludicrously under-priced. Plan to enjoy it for at least the next three years, but make your move quickly, because only 2,800 cases (out of 10,000) were slated to reach American shores."

Renwood Sierra Foothills Zinfandel 2006

Renwood Sierra Foothills Zinfandel 2006 8.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "The 2006 Sierra Foothills Zinfandel displays aromas of cherry, plums and nutmeg. The flavors mirror the aromas and give the wine a fresh fruit flavor with a spicy aftertaste. This lighter style of Sierra Foothills Zinfandel is smooth and luscious." Save $3 off the regular price for a limited time. Also available at the same price: Sierra Foothills Syrah 2005.

Masked Rider Gunsmoke Red 2008

Masked Rider Gunsmoke Red 2008 9.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "This young 2008 blend shows aromas and flavors of fresh fruit, plums, black currant, herbs, espresso notes and complemented with touches of earth. A smooth mouth, round tannins and a tasty finish. Enjoy this wine with filet mignon, barbecued tri-tip, creamy pasta dishes and a slice or two of smoked gouda." Blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon 40%, 38% Petite Sirah 38%, Merlot 15% and Cabernet Franc 7%.

Don Ramon Campo De Borja 2007 6.99/750 ml.
Great value in an everyday Spanish red. The blend is 75% Grenache and 25% Tempranillo. Tasting notes: "Ruby dark garnet in color, with an effusive creamy cherry cough drop nose; flavors turn more toward deeper, darker black cherry and raspberry on a medium to medium full bodied frame, with moderate tannins and balanced acidity. A subtle earthiness underneath the bright fruit adds some depth and complexity."

Clos La Chance Central Coast Unoaked Chardonnay 2008

Clos La Chance Central Coast Unoaked Chardonnay 2008 9.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "This wine opens up with aromas like a tropical fruit salad - pineapples, guava and bananas dominate the nose. Hints of lemon grass and citrus rind as well. The flavors are concurrent with the nose—lots of fresh pineapple. Kiwi, lime and a hit of grassiness round out this very fruit forward Chardonnay. The bright acid makes this a wonderfully refreshing summer wine." This wine is part of the Hummingbird series. Winery price is $15. Frugal's regular price is $12.99. Save big for a limited time only!

Clos La Chance Central Coast Meritage 2005

Clos La Chance Central Coast Meritage 2005 9.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "Aromas of red plum and cherry fruit with dried tobacco, cedar and a touch of smoke. Flavors of black plum and currant and dried sage with a hint of earth and firm tannins on the finish. This Meritage was created in the St. Emillion style." Estancia Pinnacles Chardonnay 2008 9.99/750 ml.
Winery notes: "Light straw gold in color. Fresh pear and crisp apple aromas are accented by notes of honeydew with a touch of floral on the finish. Bright tropical notes and stone fruit compliment the vibrant nuances of citrus. Soft touches of toasty oak and cream accentuate the lingering, minerally finish."

Francis Coppola Presents Bianco 2008 6.99/750 ml.
Don't delay, this great price won't last. Bianco is 89% Pinot Grigio, with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Invite friends over and serve Bianco with appetizers, pair it with light lunch fare, enjoy it at dinnertime with seafood or simply pour yourself a glass to sip on a warm afternoon. Aromas: Citrus, passion fruit, and white blossoms. Flavors: Pink grapefruit, melon, and peaches."

Robert Parker rates this one 87 points, saying, "The inexpensive 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon California is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Syrah, Merlot, and Petite Sirah. Aged 20 months in French and American oak, it exhibits a dark ruby hue along with a big, sweet bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, toast, and subtle herbs. Fleshy and medium-bodied with silky tannins and excellent purity as well as depth, this bargain-priced Cabernet begs for consumption over the next 1-2 years."
